We love the Backwoods. From our home range in Ohio and Kentucky, to the wild Canadian bush, and everywhere in between. We live for the Backwoods - and Excalibur's Huntin' the Backwoods Television show gives us the opportunity to share a little bit of our Backwoods with you.
It all started 13 years ago in 2004. A small group of hunters who also happened to be local police officers made the decision to teach themselves how to run cameras and edit video so they could share their experiences in the Backwoods with like-minded individuals. And so, Team Backwoods was born.
Over the course of the next several years, Team Backwoods produced a very popular Whitetail Hunting DVD series titled Back in the Woods. This series of DVDs (7 of them in total) featured whitetail hunts in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana. The DVDs were sold at sport shows across the Midwest. In 2008, Team Backwoods introduced a new DVD series titled Bears in the Backwoods featuring black bear hunting across Canada. Bears in the Backwoods proved to be as popular as the whitetail titles and quickly helped establish Team Backwoods as a bear hunting advocate and authority.
In 2008, with the success of Team Backwoods' DVD titles, Excalibur Crossbow approached the Backwoods Boys and asked them to produce a television show with their name on it. Excalibur's Huntin' the Backwoods, now in it's 7th season on The Sportsman Channel, is a no-nonsense hunting show. Every week Dan Wallace, Karl Metzler and the rest of the Backwoods Boys hit the woods and hunt.
The Backwoods Boys are real people, with real jobs and real lives. That's as close to "Reality Television" as you can get. We're not professional hunters... we're storytellers. And we invite you along for all the stories from the Backwoods. Learn Learn more about Excalibur's Huntin' the Backwoods and watch past seasons.
Dan is the president of Team Backwoods and host of Excalibur's Huntin' the Backwoods. He practically lives in the woods... spending as much time as he can hunting whitetails, black bears, or just about anything else. And he's good at it.
As a retired sherrif's deputy, Dan puts his police training to use in the Backwoods, applying many of the same concepts to his pursuit of big game animals. When he's not in the woods, he's busy managing day-to-day operations and editing.
Karl is the executive producer and co-host of Excalibur's Huntin' the Backwoods and the team's "high-tech redneck." He splits his time between video production, web development, and graphic design, providing high-quality products for both Team Backwoods and its partners.
If he's not in front of a computer screen, you'll find him in the Backwoods, with either a weapon or a camera.
